A ridiculously simple recipe with stunning effects and most importantly it is absolutely delicious to eat!  It is a stunning little festive treat to share with friends and family.   Adults and children alike will love them so be aware you probably will end up making them several times to keep up with demand.  They are very little fuss to make and also very little cost.  Personally, I love being pregnant during the holidays because I become all domesticated and want to make all sorts of treats like this.

Ingredients

One pack of Brownie Mix (I used Giradelli Brownie Mix from my local store)

One tub of frosting

A tub of Strawberries

1 small circular cookie cutter

Method

Follow the instructions on the brownie mix and bake your brownies and leave them to cool

Once cooled use your small circular cookie cutter to cut out the base

Pipe the top of each brownie with frosting

Cut the tops off the strawberries and place them flat side down on top of the frosting, press down quite firmly to make sure they are secure

To finish pipe a small dot of frosting on the top of each strawberry

Voila Brownie Santa hats! Seriously, these could so easily become my new craving.

If you are not a complete sweet tooth like me you can change the frosting to cream cheese and still follow the above method.  The cream cheese will really help to enhance the flavor of the strawberries and works well as a contrast to the sweetness of the brownies.

I took my eight year old to go and see Hugo in 3D last night at the cinema, I decided that it would be nice just to be the two of us and grab a burger on the way there and have a chat about school and stuff.  We used one of the AMC Theater gift cards he got for his birthday back in June.  The film was absolutely FAB and one of the best 3D films I’ve ever seen!   It’s all about a little orphan boy living in the walls of train station in Paris in the 1930′s with a robot.  Basically it was everything my boy loves rolled into one film with a massive box of popcorn and a coke to top it off.  I know he’s going to be telling all of his little school friends about it today.  Before he went to bed last night he was already asking if we could go and see it again and after the review I gave to hubby about it I know he is now up for going to see it at the weekend, work dependant obviously, so maybe there is a good chance his little wish will come true after all.

I’ve decided that I’m going to ask for Home Depot Gift Cards this Christmas.  I desperately want a little green house to potter about in.  I know it sounds nuts but I want to try and have a go at growing my own fruit and vegetables from seeds.  I also think it will be a fun family activity to do with my little ones it’s something that they can easily get involved with and they can stick their hands in as much mud as they want.  I want them to grow up knowing how it’s all grown and that it does not just appear at the store over night brought by the fairies.  It should be a really useful learning experience for all of us to be honest because I’ve never done anything like this before either and neither has hubby as far as I know.  I totally love the idea at having a go at growing my own strawberries and presenting them on the table for dessert with nothing but cream.  The kids will have an amazing sense of pride as they tuck in and enjoy (everyone loves strawberries in this house).  Also I’m hoping it will interest the little ones in eating their vegetables more knowing that it’s them that helped grow them.

I love this idea and tried it over the weekend with my children. The preparation leaves plenty of time to catch a Christmas movie in between each stage and the final result is brilliant! I sent some with the boys into school this week as little gifts for their teachers and friends. They look fantastic arranged in a Christmas tree shape like in the photograph.

Ingredients

Cake mix from a packet
White chocolate buttons
Frosting
Green food dye
Colored chocolate candy
Icing sugar
Popsicle sticks

Instructions

Make up the cake following the instructions on the back of the cake pack
Leave to cool on a cooling wire for an hour
Break the cake up in a bowl and use your hands to turn it to crumbs
Add a generous dollop of frosting and mix in until the crumbs are able able to stick together
Roll into balls and place on a tray cover in wax/grease proof paper
Add a ice pop stick into each
Put in the freezer for an hour and a half
Melt the white chocolate down
Add a couple of drops of green food dye
Dip a cake ball in the chocolate ensuring an even covering
Place on your greaseproof paper
Repeat until all the balls are done and leave to dry
Make up a small bowl of icing sugar
Form a pyramid shape with your balls
Use icing sugar to help attach colored candy to your Christmas tree
Give yourself a pat on the back!

It is delicious creative fun ideal to send in to end of school Christmas parties as each ball is the perfect serving size. It will blow all the other cakes and cookies out of the water! But who says it has to be sent into school, those tasty little balls are fine just to keep at home too!
